About this object
Photograph of a bridge in Wairoa taken in the aftermath of the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. The bridge partially collapsed as a result of the earthquake. The photograph has been taken from one side of the river looking towards an unidentified garage. Two men can be seen walking across the bridge.
A handwritten note on the back of the photograph reads: Wairoa end of bridge. Other end not showing - far cylinders leaning; Engineers state bridge must go - [illegible] now building punt to carry cars etc across river; expect approaches opposite my shop [on?] Clyde Wharf and shed pulled down also Williams and Kettle.
