Letter and envelope from Bernard Madden to his family in Napier dated 28 September 1942.
a) Bernard writes about returning to Maadi camp, being x-rayed for stomach ulcers and being diagnosed with severe inflammation, being discharged from the British hospital to a New Zealand one, buying a new pipe and a tin of Napier-made tobacco, having his truck shot at on a trip into the desert, meeting Bill in Palestine, planning a trip to Cairo for Christmas cards and presents to send home, the rate of sending and receiving mail and well wishes for the family.
Written on YMCA, Lowry Hut/Active Service letterhead.
b) Envelope addressed to Mrs P J Madden, 21 Macdonald Street, Napier, Hawke's Bay. Includes a censor's stamp and postage stamp.
