Letter and envelope from Bernard Madden to his family in Napier dated 21 August 1942.

a) Bernard writes about being sent to a different part of the front, swarms of flies, arrival of new mail, improving conditions in the POW camp Patrick Madden is being held in, receiving birthday well wishers and a night away with Charles Wheeler.

Written on Church Army National Patriotic Fund Board/Active Service letterhead.

b) Envelope addressed to Mrs P J Madden, 21 Macdonald Street, Napier, Hawke's Bay. Includes two censor's stamp and postage stamp. Written on Order of St John/Red Cross letterhead.
