Letter and envelope from Bernard Madden to his family in Napier dated 9 August 1942.
a) Bernard writes about arriving at Maadi, the death of Leatha, the trip from Palestine to Egypt, a trip into Cairo, working out how many letters have come in throughout the year and when another can be expected, weather in the area, further foot troubles and an update on individuals he knows in his unit and a scheme for sending items to POW's.
Written on National Patriotic Fund Board/On Active Service letterhead.
b) Envelope addressed to Mrs P J Madden, 21 Macdonald Street, Napier, Hawke's Bay. Includes a censor's stamp and postage stamp. Signed by Bernard Madden acknowledging conditions of posting.
