Brief Description
Letter and envelope from Bernard Madden to his family in Napier dated 25 April 1942.
a) Bernard talks about receiving five letters from various people, seeing photographs of the children in the family, being unable to convey news of Pat Madden who is POW, receiving a hand wound, sending Pat parcels instead of to himself, taking a trip to Cairo, through Egypt and up to Palestine and describes crossing the Sinai Desert. Letter is heavily censored on page 4 and continues on page with Bernard writing about a train journey he took, a visit to the hospital for a knock he received on the chest, news about New Zealand from the Army and wishing the family well. Also censored on page 6.
b) Envelope addressed to Mrs P J Madden, 21 Macdonald Street, Napier. Includes two censor's stamps and a postage stamp. Signed by Bernard Madden acknowledging conditions of sending letter.
