Brief Description
Letter from Bernard Madden to his family in Napier dated 29 January 1942.

a) Bernard states that he has received news about Pat Madden being captured at Sidi Rezegh and sent to a prisoner of war camp in Benghazi, then being sent on to a POW camp in Italy two days before Allied Forces liberated the town. Bernard complains about not getting enough news from home, states that he received a parcel from the family, that he is still waiting to rejoin his Unit in the desert and that he has met Charles Wheeler and Stan Callaghan. Bernard states that he has just received mail while writing the letter so apologises for his earlier rant.

Written on YMCA letterhead and noted as being on Active Service.

b) Addressed to Mrs P J Madden, 21 Macdonald Street, Napier, Hawke's Bay. Printed on Church Army letterhead.
