The photograph is from the William Williams Collection, The New York Public Library. It shows three women standing in front of the second Ellis Island Immigration Station, opened on 17 December 1900.
A handwritten note addressed to James Walker, c/o Wilheim Derix Studio, West Germany, is located on the back of the postcard. The note regards a visit to New York and is signed: Philip. The postcard is poststamped: New York [City], New York, 26 April 1987.
