Brief Description
Archival material compiled by James Walker:

a) Invitation to the opening of an exhibition titled: Hot and Glass, Some Cold, a selection of contemporary New Zealand glass, held at Denis Cohn Gallery, 17 to 28 August 1981.

b) Invitation to the opening of an exhibition titled: Glass ’82, an exhibition of work by leading glass workers, hosted by the Auckland Society of Arts, 8 to 19 November 1982.

c) Invitation to the opening of an exhibition titled: Studio Glass ’83, a national exhibition by members of New Zealand Society of Artists in Glass, held at Auckland War Memorial Museum. The exhibition opened 18 March 1983.

d) Manuscript, photocopy of an advertisement reading: A Homage toda 85th Glassworkz. Date unknown.

e) Poster advertising the John Barleycorn 3rd General Exhibition, held at the John Barleycorn Gallery of Fine Arts and Crafts, Auckland, 13 – 26 November [year unknown]. The exhibition featured pottery, leatherwork, jewellery, woodwork and weaving by a range of artists. Some handwritten notes are located on the verso.

f) Poster advertising the Exhibition of Blown Glass and Handcrafted Glass, held at The Kilm, Auckland, 17 to 22 October 1977. The exhibition featured works by Tony Kuepfer, Howard Tuffery, Mel Simpson, Keith Mahy, Grahame Laurent, Gabriel Fagan, John Croucher, and James Walker.

g) Newspaper cutting mounted on card. The article, written by Carolyn Mitchell, is titled: Chattanooga Native Settles in New Zealand, Wandering Walker Finds a Home. It is sourced from The Chattanooga Times, 14 November 1978, page C3. The article regards James Walker, focusing on his relocation to New Zealand.

h) Group of material mounted on card regarding Fragile, an exhibition of glass by John Croucher, Margaret Osbourne, Max Osbourne, Holly Sanford, and James Walker, held at Compendium Gallery, Davenport, 27 May – 12 June 1979. i) Newspaper cutting mounted on card. The newspaper cutting advertises a documentary, titled Kaleidoscope, that aired on Channel One on Friday 4 December [unknown year]. The documentary includes a segment on contemporary stained glass.

The article regards an exhibition titled: Craft and Architecture, held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, that attempted to illustrate the contribution that artists and craftspeople can make to architectural spaces.

q) Design for a business card for James Walker, Devonport, Auckland. The design is mounted on card with a translucent overlay. Undated, possibly 1984.

r) Postcard, printed with a colour photograph of a set of stained glass windows titled: S D G 11 / 2003 / F. The windows were designed by Johannes Schreiter and manufactured by Glasmalerei Peters Studio in 2003. There is a handwritten note on the verso written by Johannes and Barbara Schreiter to James Walker, dated 22 November 2010. The note regards the Schreiter’s wedding day and James Walker’s health.

s) Postcard, printed with a colour photograph of the choir windows of St Nicholas Church, Stralsund. The windows were redesigned by Johannes Schreiter and manufactured by Glasmalerei Peters Studio in 2007. Published by Glasmalerei Peters Studio, post 2007.
