About this object
A photograph of the Country Queen, Mrs Gladys Elizabeth Jane Hudson, taken at Windsor Park in Hastings on 8 November 1952. One of four carnival queens, the Country Queen was crowned the winner of the Hastings and District War Memorial Appeal, Queen Carnival Campaign. The Country Queen is shown seated wearing a crown. She holds a sceptre and an orb. On her left, the Lord High Chancellor, Mr Les Fisher, makes an announcement to the crowd. Two of the Country Queen's Maids of Honour are visible in the foreground.
