A head and shoulders studio portrait photograph of William George Forsythe.
William George Forsythe was a printer at the Daily Telegraph Napier, together at the same time with William Young, and John William McDougall who was a journalist (circa 1889).
The photograph is part of a memorial card commemorating the life and service of the Lieutenant of Number 22 Company, 7th Contingent, New Zealand Mounted Rifles. Lieutenant Forsythe was killed in action at Bothasberg, Orange River Colony, South Africa, 1902.
The card reads: In loving memory of our beloved son William George Forsythe. Lieutenant No 22 Company, 7th Contingent, New Zealand Mounted Rifles. Late Lieut. Napier Guard. Born at Colchester, Essex, England, July 15, 1875. Killed in Action at Bothasberg, O R Colony, S Africa, Feb 24, 1902.

Rest on thy sheaves,
Thy harvest-work is done!
Come from the heart of Battle,
And in peace, Soldier, go home,
With thee the fight is won.
Died for the Empire.
