About this object
View of the Grand Hotel on Heretaunga Street, Hastings, taken after the Hawke's Bay earthquake in 1931. The front façade has collapsed as a result of the quake. The premises of jeweller S C Rusbatch, tobacconist H O Shattky, and boot importer Thomson's are visible in the foreground. A group of men stand on the road in front of the damaged buildings.

It is noted on the back of the photograph that it is Heretaunga Street, Hastings, East End. This [photograph] was taken in the morning. The building with the front out is the Grand Hotel. This was taken before the fire started in this block.
