About this object
A photograph of the damage to McRae's Hotel at Te Wairoa, following the Mount Tarawera eruption of 10 June 1886. The significant structural damage to the hotel and surrounding buildings is evident. The landscape and buildings are coated with piles of ash and volcanic outfall. Men and horses are visible in front of the hotel. The men are standing in a group near piles of building material and debris that appear to have been stripped from the buildings. There is a horse drawn cart at the right of the image.
