About this object
A photograph of a group standing amongst the damage at Tikitapu resulting from the Mount Tarawera eruption of June 1886. The photograph was taken in the bush near Tikitapu between Rotorua and Wairoa. All but one of the men are posed on horseback in a clearing. The stripped trees are visible at the background and sides of the image. An overturned stretcher or frame is evident on the ground in the foreground of the image. Ash and mud appear to cover the ground.
