About this object
A photograph of a group of refugees of the Hawke's Bay earthquake on board the HMS Veronica in port at Napier. The refugees were being transported following the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. The group is mostly men and women. One boy is visible in the centre of the group at the side of the vessel. The woman in the centre of the group holds her hand to her face. Many of the women have their backs to the camera or their faces turned away.
