About this object
A photograph of a group of refugees of the Hawke's Bay earthquake on board the HMS Veronica in port at Napier. The refugees were being transported following the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. Children are leaning on the ropes on top at the top of the vessel. Women are visible behind the children in the foreground. At left in the image are two men who appear to be crew of the HMS Veronica.
