About this object
An image of victims and patients of the temporary hospital operating at Napier Racecourse, being sent to larger hospitals following the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. The vehicles in the foreground of the image were used to transport patients to hospitals further south of Napier. Patients are visible lying in the A-frame tents constructed in rows at the racecourse. Nurses, doctors, orderlies and visitors are visible amongst the patients, tents and vehicles. It is noted on the front of the photograph that this was a clearing station.
