Alfred Weaver's Riversea Wool Scouring Works was located on St George's Road North, immediately adjacent to Mr Thomas Crosses 'Woodlands' property. Hence it was on the Havelock side of St George's Road, between Ada Street and the bend prior to Crosses Road. Alfred's land covered 5 and a half acres, and the homestead was located where the Grant's later built their house. Mr Weaver's home was originally located in Clive, and after the 1897 flood was cut into 9 sections and moved to this site. I was located close to St George's road and the wool scour was towards the back of the property. There is sufficient evidence in the papers of Hawke's Bay Herald of 13th September 1897 (where it states Weaver's is erected near the residence of Mr Thomas Crosse and the Hastings Standard of the 18th of October 1897. As well I have personal communication from Mrs Lilian Hantler whose step mother was Annie Weaver, divorced wife of Lawrence Arthur Weaver, and Mrs Hantler was many, many times at the Weavers in St George's Road from 1934 and can speak of the layout of the whole property with House, ancillary buildings, whares for men, works, drying fences, works drive and home area driveway as well as knowing much of the history of the family
