About this object
A photograph of naval personnel having a lunch break on the corner of Russell and Heretaunga Streets in Hastings. The men had been working to clear debris and secure damaged buildings following the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. The photograph is taken outside the Westerman and Company building. The men are standing and seated on the pavement, with their knapsacks on the ground nearby.
