About this object
A photograph of the refugee camp established at Nelson Park by the Defence Department following the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. Groups of men, women and children are visible in the foreground of the image. Service vehicles skirt the dozens of bell tents erected on the playing field. Water drums are visible on the back of the Waterworks Department truck.
