About this object
A photograph of a group of men erecting a cinema screen at McLean Park for an open air theatre, 1931. The entertainment project was run in the months after the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. The photograph depicts workmen standing on framing work. At the base of the structure in the foreground two men in work coats are standing looking towards the camera.
It is noted on the back of the photograph that the pictures were shown by Thompson-Payne Theatres and operated by Freeman Steel. It is also noted that admission to the main stand was 6 pence and thruppence.
