About this object
View of the interior of the Vulcan Foundry, Napier. The photograph shows a Vulcan loghauler, a portable winch powered by steam from the boiler which was used in the bush for hauling out logs to a place where they could be taken to the timber mill for processing. The log hauler was designed by Mr William Willis who came out from England to become the manager of the Vulcan Foundry in 1889.

The machine in the photo is a "VULCAN LOGHAULER". They were a portable winch powered by steam from the boiler which was used in the bush for hauling out logs to a place where they could be taken to the timber mill for processing. The log hauler was designed by my great grandfather Mr William Willis who came out from England to become the manager of the Vulcan Foundry in 1889
