A photograph depicting patients at the temporary hospital at Napier Racecourse following the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. Two patients are resting in iron framed beds. In the left foreground a sailor stands at the patient's bedside. A woman that appears to be a nurse stands near the foot of the bed. All the subjects are looking directly at the camera.
