About this object
A photograph of a group of refugees from the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931 camping on Corry Avenue, Bluff Hill, Napier. The street is lined with cars and makeshift shelters. Sheets and piles of clothes are grouped or hung on washing lines fashioned between cars, fences and telephone poles. In the foreground a temporary open air living room is visible with seated women and children looking towards the photographer.
