About this object
View of Montague Lascelles, The Peoples Sale Rooms, on Tennyson Street, Napier. The photograph has been taken from the street looking towards the main façade of the building. A group of people pose for the photograph in front of the entrance. Two horse and carts are parked in front of the building. One of the carts features the name Barry Bros.

A handwritten note on the back of the card backing of the photograph reads: This Mart was taken over in 1908 from Mr Lascelles. Mr A McGlashan was employed by him as a clerk prior to 1904 when he moved to Hastings and opened an auctioneering and land agency business there until 1908. He then returned and the mart was destroyed by fire and earthquake in 1931.
