About this object
View of the Bestall's Building, Hastings Street, Napier. The photograph was taken soon after the completion of the building in 1932. The building was built during the reconstruction of the city following the Hawke's Bay earthquake in 1931. The sites to either side of the building remain empty. While signage is absent from the front of the building, items are visible in the display windows. This indicates that Bestall's Limited had taken up occupancy of the building by the time that the photograph was taken. Cars can be seen parked in front of the building. A crane is visible in the distance.
