About this object
View of Napier taken following the Hawke's Bay earthquake in 1931. The photograph has been taken from Tiffen Park looking south across the city. The Napier Fire Station, built 1926, is located in the foreground. Damage to the building is evident in the image. On the opposite side of Tennyson Street, is the temporary Provincial Hotel Bar. Temporary structures have been also constructed in Clive Square. These buildings were known as Tin Town. In the distance, bell tents can be seen in Nelson Park.
