About this object
View of Tennyson Street, Napier, taken following the Hawke's Bay earthquake in 1931. The photograph has been taken from an elevated position, possibly on Napier Hill, looking down the street towards Marine Parade. The ruins of the Napier Municipal Theatre are visible along the left hand side of the street. The Public Trust Office, built 1921, is located midway along the street on the right hand side of the photograph. The temporary Masonic Hotel Bar is located at the Hastings Street intersection. The E & D Building, built 1929, is visible on the extreme right of the photograph. Many of the sites remain covered in rubble.
