About this object
A photograph of earthquake damage along Heretaunga Street in the central business area of Hastings. The damage pictured resulted from the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. A chute from the exposed first floor of H Blackmore and Company to street level is being used to clear internal debris. The Burton Brewery Truck is parked along the street in the left foreground of the image. The Pasadena Tea Rooms, Lovell Smith Photographic Studio and several other businesses along the street are identifiable.
