About this object
View of the Caledonian Hotel on the corner of Hastings Street and Dickens Street, Napier, taken after a fire on 9 June 1906.
The fire started shortly after 5pm in one of the upstairs rooms and spread rapidly, completely destroying the building. The photograph records some of the damage to the building. The interior has been gutted and the upper floor has collapsed. Bracing has been installed to support part of the ground floor façade. A crowd has gathered around the building.
