About this object
A photograph of Emerson Street in Napier taken during the reconstruction of the city following the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931. In the right foreground is the site of the Criterion Hotel, where a temporary bar has been built. An empty site is located behind the bar. At the left, the McGruers Building is under construction. Next to this is the Emerson Building, completed in 1931. Other buildings visible along the street include Clausens Building, Hurst's Building, Triggs & Morgan Building, and the E & D Building. In the distance the spire of St Patrick's Church is visible.
