About this object
A photograph depicting the damage to the Ministry of Works Office in Wairoa resulting from the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931. A man stands with his back to the camera whilst he stands at the telephone which is situated on the wall. The desk at the left of the image is in disarray. Loose papers are falling out of cabinets above the desk.
It is noted on the back of the photograph that the Ministry of Works telephone was the only one in service after the 1931 earthquake as the exchange number got mixed up with the Wairoa Post and Telegraph Office.
Photographer, Don Frost.
