About this object
View of Customhouse Quay and Willis Street, Wellington, taken from the tower of the General Post Office, possibly in the early twentieth century. In the left foreground, the premises of W M Bannatyne and Company merchants stands on the corner of Customhouse Quay and Grey Street. An advertisement for the Pier Hotel is visible on the opposite side of the intersection.

The intersection of Customhouse Quay and Hunter Street can be seen in the midground. The Citizens Life Chambers stands on the far left hand corner of the intersection. On the opposite side of the street, the top storey of the head office of the Bank of New Zealand, opened 1901, is visible. Further along Willis Street, a building is in the process of being constructed. St John's Presbyterian Church is visible in the distance on the right side of Willis Street.

Signs for Briscoe and Company Limited, merchants and ironmongers and J Myers and Company merchants and general importers are also visible.
