About this object
View of the Government Buildings, Wellington. The photograph has been taken at night from Lambton Quay looking towards the main entrance to the building. The building is decorated with lights, including a crown and text reading: Welcome to NEW ZEALAND. The lights were possibly installed as part of the celebrations that were held to mark the arrival of William Lee Plunket, 5th Baron Plunket, who became the Governor General of New Zealand in 1904, a position that he held until 1909.
