About this object
A photograph of what is recorded as being water spouts that spewed fine white sand, a phenomenon commonly referred to today as liquefaction. The photograph was taken near Bay View after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931. The man kneeling in the foreground is possibly Ced Newell.
