View of Napier taken from Bluff Hill looking towards Cape Kidnappers, possibly in the 1890s or early twentieth century.

In the foreground, the Napier Post Office and the Government Buildings are visible at the foot of Shakespeare Road. St John's Cathedral is visible behind the Government Buildings. At the foot of Shakespeare Road, Hastings Street runs away from the camera. The band rotunda donated to the Borough of Napier by Neal and Close and the Borough Council Chambers can be seen on the corner of Marine Parade and Herschell Street.

Among the businesses that are visible in the photograph are the Union Steam Ship Company, R Hannah and Company, the Masonic Hotel and Baker and Tabuteau.
