About this object
View taken in the aftermath of the Clive Flood in April 1897.

The photograph records the damage caused to the Waitangi Railway Bridge, near Clive. A number of the piers have been washed away as a result of the flood, leaving part of the railway line suspended in mid air. On the other side of the river, part of the bridge has been twisted by the flood waters.
