About this object
This photograph shows the official opening of the Napier tramway service in September 1913.

The photograph has been taken from the foot of Shakespeare Road, looking south along Hastings Street. A tram is parked in the foreground. It is surrounded by people.

A tram ticket has been pasted onto the back of the photograph. Next to it is written: Tram ticket used on first day of service. At the bottom is written: Hannahs old shop on Hastings & Emerson Street corner.
