About this object
Photograph of the Napier to Gisborne Railway Line at Kopuawhara, thought to have been taken in the aftermath of the 1938 flash flood at Kopuawhara, near Māhia. The photograph records the process of reconstructing part of the line. In the midground, part of the hillside beneath the track has collapsed leaving the line suspended in mid air. A crane and the entrance to a tunnel is visible further down the line.
