About this object
A photographic postcard of the Dannevirke Railway Station, Hall Street (constructed 1903). The photograph is taken from the railway line looking up toward the platform and building. A train is at rest at the far end of the platform. The station, demolished in 1983 consisted of two waiting rooms, a luggage and parcel office, a booking office, lobby, stationmaster's office, mail, store, porters' and lamp rooms. The Marseilles tile roof is of note. The large canopy, which remains in place, has cast-iron pillar supports. Note the brackets with an ornamental organic pattern of leaves and fronds.
It is noted that the postcard was printed by Muir and Moodie for a Thomas Bain. There is an inscription on the bottom of the card from an unidentified sender to a Miss Newman.
