About this object
Photograph of a flood at an unidentified locality. A post and wire fence runs across the photograph in the foreground. A farm house and a flock and sheep can be seen in the distance.
The photograph was possibly taken in 1938 when prolonged heavy rain over three days caused severe flooding in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay. Most roads suffered from slips or flooding. The hardest hit area was Esk Valley in Hawke's Bay where most homes and farmland was buried by silt or ruined by floodwaters and landslides.
Photographer, unknown.
