Brief Description
(a) The Studio: An Illustrated Magazine of Fine and Applied Art, volume 57, number 238, was published on 15 January 1913 and edited by Charles Holme. The magazine contains numerous advertisements for galleries, manufacturers, art supplies and art schools, as well as illustrated articles, exhibition and book reviews, and information relating to art schools. One colour supplement is missing.

The Contents include: The Paintings of Philip Connard, an article by Marion Hepworth Dixon including twelve illustrations; An American Landscape Painter: W Elmer Schofield, an article by C Lewis Hind including nine illustrations; The Arts and Crafts Society's Exhibition at the Grosvenor Gallery, an article by W T Whitley including twenty-nine illustrations; The Layard Collection in Venice, an article by Alfredo Melani including nine illustrations; Recent Designs in Domestic Architecture, including ten illustrations; Studio-Talk, a section devoted to exhibition reviews from correspondents in London, Edinburgh, Berlin, Budapest, Vienna, Ghent, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Wellington, Philadelphia and Tokyo; Art School Notes; Reviews and Notices; The Lay Figure: On Art Crazes and their Meaning.

Within the Studio-Talk section is an article written by a correspondent in Wellington, New Zealand. The article reports on the 1911 state grant for the purchase of art and the resulting exhibition held by the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Wellington.
