Brief Description
In the letter written to Reverend William Colenso from Reverend Charles Baker he records his concern over Colenso's moral character, marriage difficulties, his cohabitation with Ripeka and the subsequent birth of Wiremu. The letter gives some insight into a period in Reverend William Colenso's life where little is known. It also provides underlying information into the character of Reverend Charles Baker as well as the difficulties Elizabeth Colenso was experiencing. Reverend Charles Baker wrote the letter from Waikare in Northland on 25 November 1852. He had worked with Colenso in the Bay of Islands.
