About this object
A photograph of the wreck of the steamer Waikare, which struck an uncharted rock between Indian Island [Mamaku] and Passage Inlet in Dusky Sound, Southland, on 4 January 1910. The Waikare beached on Stop Island to prevent her from foundering.

The photograph is mounted in an album containing images of New Zealand scenery.
