About this object
View of Rangihoua Pā, Northland, possibly taken in July 1914. The photograph has been taken from Oihi Bay. In the foreground is the beach from which Reverend Samuel Marsden preached the first Christian service held on New Zealand soil. The sermon was held on Christmas Day 1814, with Ruatara acting as interpreter.

A note on the album page reads: Rangihoua Pā. In foreground is spot where Rev Marsden preached first sermon in N.Z. 25/12/1814.
