The photograph has been taken from an elevated position. The Westerman building, designed by the architect Edmund Anscombe (completed 1932), is located on the right side of the intersection. Other businesses visible along the street include Thorp and Company (boot importers) and the Grand Hotel.

Cars and pedestrians occupy the street. A railway line is visible in the foreground.
