About this object
View of the churchyard at St John's Church in Waimate, possibly taken in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. In the foreground is a tombstone erected in memory of William Edward Grant, Edward Beattie, and George Philpotts, who fell at the assault on Hone Heke's pā at Ōhaeawai on 1 July 1845.
