About this object
A photograph of headstones and memorials at the Mission Cemetery, also known as the Naval and Military or Old Military Cemetery, Tauranga.
The cemetery lies at the northern end of Te Papa peninsula overlooking the harbour. It stands on the site once occupied by the Ngāi Te Rangi pā of Otamataha.
It is noted under the photograph that the European Officers and men killed at the Battle of Gate Pā, Pukehinahina, an engagement in the New Zealand Wars, are interred here. The engagement occurred on 29 April 1864.
