About this object
View of Christ Church (1835) at Russell in the Bay of Islands, possibly taken in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The photograph has been taken from the grave yard looking towards one side of the church. The building is partially obscured by trees.
The grave in the foreground marks the resting place of six men from the 18-gun sloop HMS Hazard who died defending the Northland town, then known as Kororāreka, on 11 March 1845.
Photographer, Russell Duncan.
