About this object
View of the ruins of a stone house at Paihia in the Bay of Islands, possibly taken in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The house was built in 1832 by Bishop William Williams (1800-1878). Part of the stone walls were still standing at the time that the photograph was taken. The site is surrounded by trees and undergrowth.

A note on the album page reads: Ruins of stone house built by Rev W Williams in 1832. This was the first stone house built in N.Z.
