The photograph illustrates the site where the French crew of the barque Anjou cooked whilst shipwrecked on the Auckland Islands.
The Anjou was shipwrecked 5 February 1905. The twenty-two crew survived on provisions from the provision depot until early May 1905 when they were rescued by the New Zealand Government S.S. Hinemoa. The man at the right of the image is possibly Captain Le Tallec of the Anjou.
